First-year CMDB student, Yiran Yan, completed his first rotation with our lab! Under Jieying’s mentorship, they investigated the susceptibility of sympathetic and sensory neurons to hyperglycemia.

Raniki was awarded the Merkin Peripheral Neuropathy and Nerve Regeneration (PNNR) Center 2025 Grant for her project “Role of Satellite Glial Cells in Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy.”

Congratulations to Dr. Joselyn Ramirez-Gutierrez. She publicly defended her thesis, Sympathetic innervation as a negative regulator in islet plasticity during pregnancy in mice.

Jieying was awarded the prestigious Ben Barres Junior Investigator Award in Scientific Excellence at the 2025 Cold Spring Harbor Meeting on Brain Barriers.

Jieying was awarded the American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship for her project “Defining a blood-ganglion barrier in the peripheral nervous system.”

Guillermo received an Image of Distinction for the 2024 Photomicrography Competition with the submission of “neuronal axons connecting to the muscles of the iris and the cornea” to Nikon Small World.
